    Cheyenne Mountain Facts

    Cheyenne Mountain is a military installation located in the Cheyenne Mountain Complex near Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA. It is a unique and highly secure facility that serves as the primary command and control center for the United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).

    The base is located inside a granite mountain, which provides exceptional protection against nuclear, biological, and electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attacks. The complex features multiple levels of underground tunnels and chambers, as well as state-of-the-art communication and computing systems that can withstand a wide range of threats.

    The Cheyenne Mountain facility is responsible for monitoring and defending the airspace and maritime approaches of North America against potential threats. It is also a vital component of the US military’s efforts to detect and deter potential missile attacks.

    The base has a long and storied history, dating back to the Cold War era. It played a critical role in the early warning and defense systems that were developed to protect the United States from Soviet missile attacks. Today, Cheyenne Mountain continues to serve as a critical component of the US military’s efforts to maintain national security and defend against potential threats.

    The buildings stand prominent on a total of 1, 300 firm 47” steel springs that will exhaust the nuclear detonation shock. The installation is constructed to maintain a total of 6 million gallons of water and 30 days of supplies for emergency escalations.  A similar facility is nestled in Nebraska at the Offutt Air Force Base and is the emergency response institution assigned for failed missions at Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station. Worldwide, individuals are grateful for the effort and job criteria maintained by these facilities to keep the country alert and reinforced.

  • Naval Health Clinic Charleston

    This is yet a unique military base that cannot be left out as far as military bases are concerned. To be precise, the South Carolina Charleston Hospital was first established on 31st July 1917 and has served an excellent purpose so far. At that time, there was only a one-story building and some wooden structures to take care of the number of sick. Although the situation was not all that good for the sick, the hospital pursued better things. Today, this hospital is said to possess all the necessary facilities that a normal hospital requires, making it very special.

    However, it is imperative to state that, by 14th February 1970, a new hospital known as Charleston Naval Hospital was established, and this establishment resulted from the previous one. With the new structure, there were about 500 beds, and these beds were able to take care of every sick in the hospital at time. Its many qualified doctors have even made the whole environment a lovely and trustworthy place and this of course has given a lot of people so much confidence to always visit there when they are sick.

    It is well noted that, in 1917 the establishment of the then hospital was purposely to aid all the soldiers who were so badly injured during the war at that time. Although the hospital was not so equipped at that time, it is well known that it helped many soldiers. The hospital has served a purpose and for that matter, should always be acknowledged. All those who have received treatment from this hospital should know better about it.

  • Camp Justice

    Banzai’s field, before not known as the Justice of the campaign, was baptized again to the way around Sep back in 2004 according to an initiative to modify the respective military names of the American bases into Iraq to having less ” only you present, “friendlier ” the name. The equipment formed by many experts claimed that the term banzai is an agreeable word much more than simply the justice!

    Moreover, the 1st original name was able to prove a somehow prophetic form & it even extraordinarily assigns: The field of Justice was the place of Saddam Hussein’s execution in 2006, and then in 2007 the Barzan Ibrahim linked to Tikriti, the Awad Hamed linked to Bandar & also the Taha Yassin with Ramadan, these were hung. The base serves to support the North American interests to Iraq during the Operation Liberty!

    The South Carolina Beaufort Hospital is said to be one of the best hospitals as far has military base is concerned. The Beaufort hospital was commissioned on 29th April, 1949 and ever since has served greatly to the people of South Carolina and its environs. The issue is that, sometimes some people really do not know how important some of these hospitals are. The good news is that, they are all often well served in terms of health no one has ever complained after treatment. South Carolina Beaufort Hospital is really doing a great Job especially to the sick and as such should continue. Another splendid thing is the hospital building which is so unique and well planned to accommodate thousands. This is really a place to consider visiting.

  • Shaw Air Force Base

    The Shaw Air Force Base is situated in the City of Sumter, South Carolina. The establishment inherited completion of development in the year 1941 and is the current accommodation utilized to host the F-16 Combat Wing, the United States Central Command Air Forces, the 20th Fighter Wing and the Ninth Air Force. The name assigned to the installation is in coexistence of the first lieutenant, the renowned Ervin David Shaw who was a pilot in World War I. The lieutenant is presently under managerial representation by Colonel Joseph T. Guastella. This is one of the most established of all air force bases in the United States.

  • Royal Air Force (RAF) Fairford

    The Royal Air Force Fairford was built on 1944 with the primary mission of accommodating the British and the American troop gliders and carriers that will be used during their invasion of Normandy. After the World War II, the United States Air Force gained control of the base to have access to their strategic was operations. The first project of the USAF is the construction of the 10,000 foot runway which until today is the longest runway in the entire United Kingdom.

    Over the years, RAF Fairford was awarded the Concorde’s British Flight Test Center on 1969 until 1978 and on 1979; the USAF landed the squadron of KC-135 Stato-tankers which played a primary role in attacking Libya on 1986. The base gained more popularity when the airfield was used by the Space Shuttle as its abort site and because of the way the runway was built and the location; it became the site for the United States bomber fleet.

    Located near Cirencester, Glocestershire, Royal Air Force Fairford and is actively used by the USAF based in Europe is found 60 miles away from RAf Croughton and 54 miles apart from Bristol. Because of the ongoing base operations like the air refueling operations, the population of RAF FAirford was tripled in just two months because of the arrival of the people showing their support to the NATO’s Operation Allied Force.

    Currently, RAF Fairford is upgrading the runway and its fuel bunkers with a budget of US $90M. This renovation is the most funded military construction project of the NATO County ever since the cold war between United States and United Kingdom broke out. The US has plans of making the base the long range stealth bombers while the Pentagon is eyeing the base as the site for the bombers deployment.

  • Royal Air Force (RAF) Alconbury

    The Royal Air Force of Alconbury is based in Cambridgeshire, England which is 60 miles from the northern part of London. Now an active unit of the Royal Air Force used to be under the command of the United States Air Force was a non-flying facility. The United States Air Force that is based in Cambrdgeshire has three RAF stations and one of which is the RAF Alconbury.  They are called the “Tri-Base Area” together with RAF Molesworth and RAF Upwood.

    The 8th Air Force which was established before the onset of World War 2 is still active and used by the USAF, after the war; it houses the reconnaissance, weather, bomber and fighter wings. The 423d Air Base Group serves as the host installation in RAF Alconbury which is compose of an air base, engineering services, security service and medical services while giving support to the base daily activities and manages the air base services, housing and other facilities. The 423 ABG orderly rooms and the command section are housed in Alconbury with the other support groups plus the facilities which offers recreation facilities for the military men and dependents of the Tri-Base Area.

    RAF Alconbury also housed the 501st Combat Support Wing whose role is to oversees that all the UK bases of the United States are fully equipped, sustained and trained perfectly to be at par in answering to the needs of NATo and United States war fighters flying deployment, global command, theater munitions movements and the communications for the deployed missions, supports for the joint training and theater intelligence operations.

    The 501st Combat Support Wing and the 8th Air Base Group provide support to the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency and Joint Analysis Center both of which are intelligence agency of the military which monitors in the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

  • USCG Station Point Judith

    It is also known as Station Point Judith and it is a very beautiful location located on the sea shore of Rhode Island of United Sates. The base is used by US Coast Guard for search-and-rescue operations. The base has high importance as it is one of active stations of US Coast Guard having close access to open sea, which gives helicopters instant access to the sea. The station looks over around 70 miles of shore including a small island in the open sea having a smaller station of Point Judith. The station resides under the command of Senior Chief Petty Officer Eric Baruzzi.

    The station is of fair size but its instant access gives it advantage over other stations and it can offer rapid response when needed. The station has all its equipments stored in safe place and they can be taken in use instantly. It is built on the corner of the shore and it even has a light house having height of 51-feet, which also gives the feature of watch tower for open sea. It has small ships and boats in water ready for rapid response. The Station Point Judith also works with US Navy to deliver best performance during operations; it also has plenty of space for helicopter landing and preparation area.

    The site was also an important location during World War II and it played good role in making communication in the Atlantic Ocean. During World War II a German ship sank here and interestingly it was insight of the light house at the station. The light house was also widely used to observe German ships passing near Point Judith in the Atlantic Ocean. Point Judith also became the center of concentration by US Navy as Point Judith was stationed with navy personnel; it also served as the landing site of blimps used for bombing of German ships.

  • Naval Station Newport

    The station is also known as Naval Station Newport and it is located near the town of Newport and Middletown in the state of Rhode Island. It is also the former station of destroyer squadrons of US Navy. Today it works along US Coast Guard to keep maintenance of inactive ships. The base is now also home to Naval Supply Corps Chain, Officer Candidate School, Naval War College and Naval Justice School. It was established in 1883 and it was significantly used during the Civil War. The base now operates under the command of Captain Joseph P. Voboril.

    The base is also home to dismantling operations of USS ships including aircraft carriers and destroyers such as USS Saratoga, USS Forrestal and others. It has also become the permanent station of decommissioned USS Saratoga built by US Naval Shipyard New York; it is a major aircraft carrier first built in 1952 and it offered 42 years of service. The ship also received numerous titles for its outstanding performance. Infact it is not decided to whether dismantle the ship or not, it is wished by many people to place the ship in a nearby museum of North Kingtown.

    The base received major upgrades in 2005 and the base was added with more training facilities and resources. It also works along other US forces including US Coast Guard, Naval Undersea Warfare with its headquarters Rhode Island Newport station. The Naval Undersea Warfare was established after US Naval Torpedo Station in 1869, which offered its services World War I and II. Later the base was added with more facilities Naval Station Newport was founded. The base is also a popular tourist attraction for its nearby naval museum in nearby town of North Kingtown where tourists get to see things from US Navy especially from Naval Station Newport.

  • USCG – Coast Guard Station Castle Hill

    The Rhode Island Castle Hill is also sometimes known as Station Castle Hill and it is operated by the US Coast Guard. The primary purpose of the station includes overlooking the operations of US Coast Guard in Newport in Rhode Island. The station is also responsible to assist US Coast Guard in search-and-rescue operations. Beside an important Coast Guard station it is also home to popular tourist attractions and luxurious resorts. It also assists Coast Guard in environmental protection program. It also has ship docking facility and has some regular ships on the station, which includes USCGC Juniper and USS Bainbridge.

    The station has a small two floor building housing all the equipments and staff. It also has a light house usually known as Castle Hill Light built on the corner of the shore. The light house is also listed in National Register of Historic Places. The light house was built in 1980 and it is located on the Narragansett Bay on the north of Rhode Island. The light house offers marvelous sight of the sea and it is one of the most active locations of US Coast Guard as it is widely used to monitor boats and ships entering the premises of Rhodes Island.

    The site of the light house once belonged to Alexander Agassiz from University of Harvard; interestingly the site was sold the government of United States for $1 after the hurricane of 1938. What is more interesting is that their descendents now owns a resort near the location of the light house named as Castle Hill Inn and Resort, which is visible from the light house.

    The light house of Station Castle Hill is not open to public but it can be viewed from a distance and especially from Castle Hill Inn and Resort; it has a red light instead of white and it flashes every eight second that can been seen from other islands as well.

  • Royal Air Force (RAF) Croughton

    The Royal Air Force Croughton is a communication base of the United States Air Force located in Northampton, England. This is the home for the 422nd Air Base Group whose primary mission is to offer services, unit support, force protection and communication in their worldwide operations. They provide their services to the US European Command, Department of State, NATo, Department of Defense and the United States Central Command.

    RAF Croughton was established on 1938 under the name Brackley Landing Group and was changed to RAF Brackley on 1940 and on 1941 it was named RAF Station Croughton.  It has a base area of 694 acres with three grass runways and it became a satellite station used for the night flying training mostly for the Commonwealth pilots.

    It was designated as an emergency airfield for the damaged and attacked bombers that were returning from their missions all over Europe but the training field was also attacked on several instances because it was not strongly defended which made the area an easy target for the enemy. Night training in the airfield in minimized because of the attention they give in the middle of the blacked out area.

    Originally the military base was used as storage site for the ammunition, after the World War II it was taken over by the US Air Force as a site for their communication purposes. Today, it is the considered as having one of the largest military switchboards and ranked third in all of the United States military communications based in Europe.  RAF Croughton handles around 30% of the United States military traffic in the entire Europe and currently, handles 25% communication traffic from Europe to the United States.

    The used to be separate unit of the 422nd ABG was merged with the 501st Combat Support Wing when the 501 CSW changed the 38 CSW in order to align the entire prime Geographically Separated Units based in England.

  • Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove (Closed)

    The base is also called NASJRB Willow Grove. It is basically an Air Station of Naval and it is situated in the Horsham Township in the state of Pennsylvania. The base was built in 1926 by an American inventor and aviation pioneer Harold Frederick Pitcairn. The base was originally used for designing and testing purposes, later the base was used as navy faculty for designing aircrafts. During its early times it only had a hanger with grass strip used by airplanes to takeoff and land. The base received its names from a nearby town named as Willow Grove as no body knew the area by its original name.

    The base was first used by Harold Frederick Pitcairn to design and test airplanes including the Wright R-760 Whirlwind airplanes, which were widely used by US Postal Mail between 1924 and 1942. But later the base was purchased by United States to operate an anti-submarine operation during the Second World War. The base continued operating as a training facility in Cold War. It was used as an aviation training and operation facility by all major US Armed Forces. And it is still used today for same purpose; the base has also hosted some air shows notably in the year of 2006.

    Today the base continues offering its services to number of US Armed Forces and it is stationed with 111th Fighter Wing comprising of fighter jet planes including A-10 Thunderbolt II The squadron also comprise of some of the best former US Air Force aircrafts such as P-51 Mustang, Boeing B-29 Superfortress, A-37 Dragonfly and F-89 Scorpion. The base is also home to headquarters Pennsylvania of Civil Aviation Patrols and US Cadet Corps of Naval Sea, which is some of the most widely, recognized military-civil aviation authorities in US.

  • Tobyhanna Army Depot

    It is also known as Tobyhanna Army Depot and it is located in the town of Tobyhanna in the state of Pennsylvania, United States. It is the logistic center of US Department of Defense. It specializes in electronic systems located on the center, which includes monitoring and warning systems. The base was established in 1953 as Tobyhanna Signal Depot and it performs number of operations on the center, which includes repair and maintenance of communications systems, intelligence technology, surveillance, computer and control system repairs for US Armed Forces in the country. The center also specializes in repairing large size instruments such as radars, satellites, and telecommunication and navigation systems.

    The logistic center has a large amount of experience of repair and maintenance of complex military instruments. The base also received more work due to vast experience and excellent performance. It is also considered as the leader in repairing automatic instruments and highly sophisticated equipments. The US military considers the base as their most important repair stations capable of performing repair operations of guided missiles, avionics and control equipments.

    There are around 5000 personnel working on the base and its operations cost around $2 billion each year. The base also offers its services overseas on US installations including South East Asia. The base also received the award of Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence in 2006 and more. The site of the base was first used in 1900 for storage purposes, later in World War II the site became the training site of anti-aircraft artillery. After the end of the war the site became one of 138 military reserved sites in the World. In 1951 the US Army Signal Corp designated the site for Tobyhanna Army Deport and it continued its services. Today the base has become the largest employer in northern Pennsylvania.

  • Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg

    It is also known as NSA Mechanicsburg and Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg. There are several naval bases in the state of Pennsylvania; it is a base of fair size as compare to other bases in the state. The base was established around 1940 and installation was settled to repair ships on the base but later the squadrons were expended to perform other operations, which included munitions management, naval engineering works and permanent maintenance of the ships. The primary function of the base is to provide support, maintenance services and take additional responsibilities of troops and ships arriving at the base. The base is also responsible to provide housing to troops at the base. Today Capt. James W. Smart commands the NSA Mechanicsburg.

    Some of the responsibilities of the base are transferred to other bases, especially chemical and petroleum related operations; for instance Defense Supply Center Richmond in the state of Virginia. Some operations on the base have also been transferred to private contractors preferably ships related operations and works.

    The base was once home to railway station and it was widely used during American Civil War to transport troops and supplies. Even today around six trains move on these tracks in Mechanicsburg everyday. Later the station was taken under use by Naval Support Activity. The tracks of the stations played major role in the development of NSA Mechanicsburg. The city is also home to other bases and the NSA Mechanicsburg is very close to the base.

    The base comprise of around 5000 military personnel and civilians including people from contracted companies working on the base. The largest number of employees belongs to Naval Inventory Control Point while Navy Supply Information Systems Activity contains second largest number of employees. The staff on the base also belongs to Naval Supply Systems Command.

  • Carlisle Barracks

    Pennsylvania Carlisle Barracks is a US Army training facility in the city of Carlisle in the state of Pennsylvania. It is also known as Carlisle Barracks and it offers US military war college. The US Army War College was shifted to Carlisle Barracks from Washington Barracks in 1951 and has been the center of high command since then. The war college has offered its training services to some of the best US Army officers. The college was transferred to larger building, comprising of Strategic Institute and Military History Institute.

    The base was built in 1757 and it operates under the command of US Army Training and Doctrine Command. It is also the second oldest military base ofUnited States. The base also played major role in Civil War as it become the center of supplies such as horses, weapons, equipments and more. The barrack was operated under the command of Capt. Daniel H. Hastings.     Today the base offersMedicalFieldServiceSchoolestablished in 1920 under the command of Col. Percy M. Ashburn. The school developed numerous medical instruments during World War I, which were widely used by US Army. The medical school is in service for more than 26 years and around 30,000 officers and medical students have graduates fromMedicalFieldServiceSchool. The students are given special medical training especially designed for warfare.

    The base also offered other kinds of schools includingArmyInformationSchoolandAdjutant GeneralSchoolfor army lawyers, which makes Carlisle Barrack home to some of the best training facilities in the state. The base also had Army Security Agency School, which was replaced in 1949 after two years of service. The war college was expended several times and several changes have been made for improvements.
